Let’s face it. Wrinkles are as natural as nature can get. It has always been part of the aging process. As we grow old the elasticity of our skin wears down as the elastin fades away and the collagen proteins wither away or breaks down. The body’s ability to produce these chemicals slows down with age. While wrinkles cannot be avoided the only thing an individual can do is to slow down the process by eating natural foods that can help you have clearer and wrinkle-free skin longer.

 Tomatoes

If you are targeting to have a relatively wrinkle-free skin then you need to eat lots of tomatoes. Tomatoes have chemical properties that are excellent in reducing wrinkles and in slowing down the appearance of fine lines. Noteworthy among the chemicals that can help the body against wrinkles is lycopene. Lycopene is excellent in shielding the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays which produces free radicals when it comes in contact with the skin. Instantly, the skin gets 33 percent worth of UV protection when a person makes a daily intake of five tablespoons of tomato paste.

Salmon

Salmon is an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids which is often absent in Western diets. Omega-3 fatty acids can help moisturize the skin and protect it from ultraviolet damage that can cause premature aging of the skin. Astaxanthin, the chemical that gives the salmon its pink colour is actually a powerful anti-oxidant. The Food and Drug Administration recommends eating fish at least twice a week.

 Wheat Germ

Still bothered by those fine lines? Fret no more. Wheat germ is an excellent source of co-enzyme Q10 which is great for the heart and also a powerful anti-oxidant. It is a great source of vitamin E which helps people get a ravishing and healthy-looking skin. The selenium and zinc in wheat germ are trace minerals that are helpful in slowing down the aging process.

 Eggs

Eggs are still the best food-based sources of protein. Eggs possess glycine, proline and lycine which are amino acids needed for the production of collagen and elastin that are important to avoid wrinkles and fine lines. Eggs also have vitamin E, A and selenium which helps the amino acids produce a good amount of collagen.

 Carrots

We all know that carrots are a rabbit’s favourite food that can also help you get a better vision. Unknown to a lot of people, carrots are also rich in anti-oxidant beta-carotene which is known to protect the skin from free radicals. If you want to snack, try eating raw carrot sticks since it is less sugary and more filling.

 Spinach

Spinach gained prominence as the official energizer food of Popeye. Spinach is a wonder food since it has tons of coenzyme Q-10, selenium, vitamins and minerals that help the body produce more collagen and elastin. It is also rich in glutathione which has been touted as the master anti-oxidant in helping people become healthier and stronger especially against the adverse effects of stress and anxiety.

The quest for a wrinkle-free skin begins at the dining table. While dermatological products work wonders, using natural ways to keep the skin supple remain generally safe. Not only these super foods can slow down the aging process, it can also help people reap health benefits.
